Fry’s / Kroger Fuel Points Program Explained

frys_fuel_points

Everything you need to know about Fry’s/Kroger Fuel Points is in one place, updated for 2023.  I thought I was a pro, but I still learned something new when I read the fine print.  I understand all the rules now.  Keep reading!

Here’s a link to their full program details, but I’ll summarize it all below.

How do you earn Fry’s / Kroger Fuel Points?

  • 1 point for every dollar spent
  • double points for purchasing qualifying gift cards
    (excludes Fry’s, Visa, etc)
  • 25 points for non-federally funded prescriptions
    (75 points for 90-day supply)
  • 50 points for taking a survey
  • occasional bonus points

How do Fry’s / Kroger Fuel Points work once they are earned?

To use Fry’s Fuel Points, you need to accumulate at least 100.  Every 100 will save you 10¢/gallon.  You can use up to 1000 points at a time, saving up to $1/gallon.

Each month is separate and points do not combine.  Any points beyond 100, 200, 300, etc. are lost and a new point accumulation begins the following month.

Can you use Fry’s Fuel Points at Circle K & Shell in Arizona?

As of August 1, 2023 (earlier at some stations), you can no longer redeem your Fry’s Fuel Points at Circle K.  Shell stations are still participating.

To continue saving money there without Fuel Points, check out the app Upside.  I’ve written more about it here.  I love the added savings!

Where can you use Fry’s Fuel Points?

As of August of 2023, Fry’s Fuel Points can be redeemed at Fry’s (or Kroger affiliated) gas stations & some third party stations, though not at Circle K anymore.

To find a location near you, go here.

Or, if you go to the “Rewards” tab of your app, then “Fuel Points,” you will see a link to “View Fuel Locations” under your point totals.

For Kroger or other affiliates, use the link above and put in your zip code  or city and state to see participating locations.

Can you use Fry’s / Kroger Fuel Points on vacation at other gas stations?

You can use your Fry’s Fuel Points at any of the Kroger family of stores participating fuel stations.

We used them on multi-state road trip recently, combined with their credit card offer.  (See below for getting a $5o bonus and also saving and extra 55¢ per gallon.)

I would put in the city and look for stations that weren’t far off our path.  We saved a bunch!

To find a location, go here and put in a nearby zip or or state and city.

How soon can you use Fry’s / Kroger Fuel Points?

It usually doesn’t take long for Fry’s / Kroger fuel points to show show up from shopping or taking surveys.

Technically, they say it can take up to 5 days for fuel points to show up, so there’s a chance you’ll have to be patient, but it’s never taken nearly that long for my fuel points to show up.

Fry’s Fuel points usually show up almost instantly and can be used right away.  Just in case there is a technical problem or change sometime, it’s always safest to check your account to make sure they show up.  If you see the points, you can use them.

How do you check how many Fry’s / Kroger Fuel Points you have?

To see how many Fuel Points you have, check the bottom of your receipt, online, or in your app.

The bottom of your receipt will only show you a total.  If you want details from each transaction or to see if you were properly credited for a survey you completed, you will need to log in online or open your app.

From your app go to the menu bar on the top left (the three lines), tap “Rewards” and then choose “Fuel Points,” then “Continue.”  You will see your total at the top, with details for each transaction below.

From a browser, make sure you’re logged in, hover over your name, and then choose “My Fuel Points.”  You can click “View “Details” in the section for the month you want to know more than a total.  It will show you what was earned for each transaction or survey you’ve completed.

How do you get 4x Fuel Points & other bonuses at Fry’s / Kroger for gift cards or other purchases?

Opportunities to earn bonus Fuel Points at Fry’s usually require that you load a digital coupon either online or through your app.

The digital offer could be for something like double Fuel Points on your whole purchase on the weekend or maybe quadruple points when you buy qualifying gift cards.  Or, you could find a digital coupon in your app or online for something like 200 bonus points when you buy a $25+ Chipotle gift card.

Sometimes the digital coupons are advertised in their weekly ad.  Other times you will need to search or just stumble upon them with your other digital coupon offers.

Load all the coupons that might apply since they sometimes “stack” for even more points.  Read the fine print on each digital coupon offer, and it will tell you what is excluded and what can’t be used together.  If nothing is stated about being unable to use them with another offer, both offers can be used together if the minimum requirements for each coupon are met.

If you don’t have digital capabilities, ask your cashier or go to customer service and they should be able to help you.  There is often a barcode they can scan that will give you the extra points.

How do you get 50 Fuel Points for completing a survey at Fry’s / Kroger?

Fry’s/Kroger Fuel Points survey invitations and codes are usually found on your receipt.  Look for a code!

Recenlty, they started putting the notice under a section of my receipt that says “Fry’s Community Rewards.”  It’s easier to miss than it used to be since it doesn’t have its own section.  Look carefully! (See below if you don’t have a code.)

Go to frysfood.com/feedback or kroger.com/feedback or find “Receipt Survey” in the dropdown menu of your app.

You can complete a survey every 7 days, earning 50 points each time.  That’s fairly often and can add about 200 points to your total each month if you can remember to do it each week.

Set a reminder!

I haven’t been able to verify this yet.  (I keep trying and not timing it right!) . . . I don’t think you are able to take a survey on the same day of the week if you do it before a full 7 days (24 hrs x 7) has passed.  So, unless you keep moving it back a little bit later in the day, set a reminder to do your survey every 8 days if you want to maximize the savings without stressing over minutes or hours that you’re off.  But … If you discover you can take it at 8am on Monday, then at 7am the following Monday, please let me know!

Can you get fuel points for taking a survey if you don’t have an entry ID on the bottom of your Fry’s / Kroger receipt?

If you don’t see a code, choose “no” when they ask if you have an Entry ID.  You will be prompted to enter the phone number of the store and then you will proceed.

Update (June 2023):  They option is back to do a survey without an invitation or ID number at the bottom of your receipt!

How do you get bonus fuel points a with Fry’s or Kroger credit card?  What happens after the bonus year is over?

Another way to save on fuel is to get a World Elite Mastercard through Fry’s / Kroger.  You save an extra 55¢ per gallon, for a year.  You can also get a $50 referral bonus while saving up to $1.55/gallon on your fuel; read below.

The 55¢ bonus will last for a full year from your approval date.  It is activated at the pump each time you use your new credit card and redeem at least 100 fuel points (10¢/gallon off turns into 65¢/gallon off; $1/gallon off turns into $1.55/gallon).

If you spend at last $6,000 in the first 12 months, you will receive 25¢/gallon off for the remainder of that calendar year and through the next calendar year, until the following January 31.  From then on, you need to spend $6,000 per year to earn it for the following year.

If you don’t hit the $6,000 spending requirement, you will save 5¢/gallon each time you use your card and redeem at least 100 fuel points.

There are some other perks like 5% cash back for using Kroger Pay and other mobile wallet purchases, 2% cash back when you shop at Fry’s/Kroger, and 1% off for other spending.  Make sure you fully read the details since they could change and there are some other small perks and limitations that might affect you as well.

You can redeem points when you hit 1,000 ($10) if you enroll in Real-Time Rewards.  Or, you can wait to request a statement credit or a Kroger gift card if you hit $25.

If you use a lot of fuel & shop at Kroger, this is a great way to save!

What is a Fry’s / Kroger referral code for a $50 bonus for opening a Mastercard?

If you use a referral code, you get a $50 bonus for opening a Kroger or Fry’s Word Elite Mastercard (that also gets you 55¢ off per gallon, for a year!).  I opened one to test out how everything worked, so I could share with you and did not receive a bonus.  I didn’t know it existed at the time.  Boo!  I don’t want you to do the same thing and miss out on $50.

Here’s how to get a referral code for $50:  If it’s worth the wait/hassle (I’m pretty quick on email) . . . send me an email requesting that I have their system send you an email.  If you click to reigster for a card from that email, it should give you a $50 statement credit once you’re approve and your credit card is in good standing.  My email:  juli@bargainbeliever.com  (I wish there was an easier way, but this seems to be the only way.  If it changes, I’ll update.)

Full disclosure:  It says I will receive 2000 bonus points.  That can be cashed in for $20, so I will get something too.  I will not share your email with anyone else. I will just submit it for the system to send you a referral email.

Can you combine Fry’s or Kroger credit card points with up to 1000 fuel points?

Yes!  Your 55¢/gallon discount bonus for using a Fry’s/Kroger credit card can be combined with the fuel points you earn in-store.

Once approved, you get an extra 55¢ off/gallon each time you use your credit card and redeem at least 100 fuel points.  The 55¢ is added to whatever you redeem and can be combined with their maximum of 1000 pts per redemtion, meaning you could save up to $1.55/gallon when you fill up.  If you only redeem 100 fuel points (10¢ discount), you would save 65¢/gallon.

What is excluded from earning Fuel Points at Fry’s / Kroger?

You do not earn points for everything at Fry’s.  Alcohol, tobacco, money orders, postage stamps, lottery, product deposits, promotional tickets, tax & fees (including pickup and delivery fees) are excluded from earning Fuel Points.  Some milk and milk products are excluded in some states.  You also do not earn points for fuel purchases at Fry’s gas stations.

Is there a limit to how many Fry’s /Kroger Fuel Points you can earn or redeem?

There is no limit to the number of Fuel Points you can earn, but you can only redeem 1000 at a time, saving up to $1/gallon.  Every 100 points saves you 10¢/gallon.  (If you have a credit card, the bonus you earn is added to this, so you could save up to $1.55/gallon.)

What can you do with leftover Fry’s / Kroger Fuel Points?

You can do absolutely nothing with leftover Fry’s Fuel Points at the end of each month.  If you make it to 499 in one month, you will earn 4 Rewards, getting you 40¢ off per gallon.  The 99 extra won’t get you anything the next month since the slate is wiped clean each month.  Watch your points at the end of the month.  It might be worth picking up an extra item or two if you’re just a little short on points.

How long do Fry’s /Kroger Fuel Points last?  When do they expire?

Fry’s Fuel Points can be used during the month you earn them or the following month.  For instance, if you accumulate 280 points in January, you could use them in January or February.  (You would save 20¢/gallon and the 80 points would be wasted if that was your total for a complete month.)

Look at the bottom of your most recent receipt, online, or in your app to see your latest Fuel Point total and when the points expire.

See below if your fuel points have expired.

How do you use expired Fry’s / Kroger Fuel Points?

Don’t be too sad if you’ve let your Fry’s / Kroger Fuel Points expire!  You can contact their customer service department up to 7 days after they expire and they will extend the expiration.  They will do this up to 3 times per 12 month period.

Recently, I was told by a representative that I had up to 15 days after expiration.  I called on the 12th of the month and was told they couldn’t be extended since they drop from their system and can’t view how many I had.  (They gave me 500 as one-time courtesy, though I had more.  Ughh!)

Call the first week of the month. Don’t wait any longer!

This time the representative told me that you could call before they expire, as early as the 29th of the month, but that you could also call the first week of the following month.

The advantage to waiting for the next month is that they will last you two more months since Fuel Points are good the month they’re earned and the following month.  If you get them in the new month, you’ll have that month and the following month.

This is great news for those who are waiting for their tank to get close to empty, but it’s just not there yet … or for those who forget.

How do you contact Fry’s / Kroger for Fuel Points Customer Service?

If you have any issues with earning or redeeming Fry’s Fuel Points, contact their customer service.  You can also ask them to extend the expiration on your points.  (See above.)  They are usually very accommodating and will try to make you happy.

Call them at:  1-800-KRO-GERS (1-800-576-4377)

Or, go here to fill out a form or start a live chat.

How many gallons of gas can you get with your Fuel Rewards at Fry’s / Kroger?

You can save on a max of 35 gallons of gas when you are redeeming your Fry’s Fuel Rewards.

We have brought more than one vehicle, parked across the pump from each other, and switched to a second vehicle after the first is filled.  Just be quick enough so that the pump doesn’t cut off, and you can fill more than one tank, up to 35 gallons.

How do you use Fry’s / Kroger Fuel Points at the pump?

When you get to the gas station, simply scan your loyalty card or enter your alternate ID (usually your phone number) after indicating you want to use your fuel rewards.

What if you want to use older Fry’s / Kroger Fuel Points before the current month’s or just part of them?

The Fry’s Fuel Points program automatically gives you the highest discount available at the pump.  If you want to change that for any reason, you need to go to a Kroger affiliated fuel station.  It can not be at other stations that accept Fuel Points.

At the pump at Fry’s, the system will ask you if you want to “use the full amt” or if you want to “change amt.”  You will then be prompted to enter an amount you want to use.  Be sure you know the amount you have available since it will not tell you your max from the current month.  Remember, points do not combine.  You will probably want to choose the exact amount (10, 20, 30, 40, etc) that is closest to expiring.

Example:  If you have 340 points you haven’t used from January and in February you have already earned 580, you would automatically save 50¢/gallon (using 500 points from February).  While it sounds great to save the most that you can, you could prefer to use the 300 January points before they expire and save only 30¢/gallon instead. This way you can save your 50¢/gallon discount for a future purchase after the January points expire.

You may want to redeem only 100 fuel points at a time, even if you have more.  This makes sense if you are using their credit card.  Each time you use their credit card, their bonus will only apply ONLY IF you have 100 Fuel Points to use.  For example, you may want to use 10¢ off per gallon with your 55¢ bonus three times during the month instead of getting 30¢ off plus your bonus only once.  (See above for more info on saving with their credit card, possibly getting a $50 bonus and saving 55¢ off for a year.)

How do coupons affect Fry’s / Kroger Fuel Points?

You can end up with more Fuel Points than dollars spent at Fry’s.  If you use manufacturer coupons you still earn on that amount.  So, if your total should have been $25 and you used $5 in coupons and only paid $20, you would still earn 25 fuel points.  (Tax will not count towards fuel points.)

Are Fry’s / Kroger Fuel Points worth the effort?

Since the Fry’s Fuel Point program is automatic (except bonus offers you need to load) and free to participate in, you really have nothing to lose by comparing numbers when you have points.

Of course, determining whether to redeem your points is a little more tricky.

I am a Costco member and live really close to one.  They are usually about 20¢/gallon cheaper than the Fry’s closest to me.  So, if I can’t save at least 30¢/gallon, it’s usually not worth it to me.

Since the difference between stations can vary, I have the GasBuddy app installed on my phone.  I can quickly look to see the difference in price and determine where I’m better off getting gas.

Update:  Fuel Points can’t be used at Circle K anymore, but the Upside app still saves me money there, so I’m leaving this information in case you get fuel at Circle K (or many other stations across the nation).

I’ve also started using the Upside app with my Fuel Points at Circle K to save even more!  Your savings can vary depending on location, time, and other variables, but the amount seems to be 5¢-19¢ extra savings per gallon.  If you use another discount like Fry’s Fuel Points, they reduce the savings by 3.5¢.  Even after that deduction, I’m always saving something more.  (Note:  You can’t always trust the actual price listed in the GasBuddy app, but you can trust the amount off per gallon.)  Read more about my thoughts on Upside here.

There are months I let my 200-300 points expire and others I use it.  If it’s 400 or more, it’s almost always worth it to me to redeem them.

Update:  The giveaway has ended, but all the fuel rewards information is still accurate and good information!  Congrats to Michelle A!  Thanks to everyone who entered!

30 Comments on Fry’s / Kroger Fuel Points Program Explained

  1. I am 90 years and have read much of what is published on line. I couldn’t find it said how ‘many’ points buys how ‘much’ discount.
Like a table, maybe. The points system is terribly complicated for me. I read ‘it’s automatic’. Keeping track of points to decide when to buy fuel seems like more effort than I am capable of performing.

  2. HI, I just finished to fill my feedback questionnaire but I put a phone number by mistake. They gave 2 more options to put the telephone number. I corrected twice and in both occasions said that they couldn’t recognize that number. I called your 800 number but there is nobody to help now. I just want to get my credit for the 50 points. It will expire tonight.

  3. you have made it very hard for older seniors to redeem their points trying to figure out the fry redeemer.

    1. I’m not affiliated with Fry’s, so they will not get this feedback. If you want to let them know, please contact them directly. 800-576-4377

  4. One thing the article is missing and I could use some help with. If you pay with your US Bank Fry’s MasterCard, you get an additional $0.55 off per gallon. We have four kids and are BOOST members, so it’s typical for us to rack up 4,000-5,000 point per month. We get so many points, I have actually had unused fuel points before.

When I redeem our 1,000 points at the pump and I pay with my fry’s credit card, I’ve been getting $1.25 off per gallon, however, I should be getting $1.55 off ($1 off for redeeming the max 1,000 points and $0.55 off for using my US Bank fry’s master card to pay)

    Does anyone know Why?
And who do I contact, fry’s or US Bank?

    1. Thank you for the reminder about that! I will try to make time to update with credit card information sometime this week.

I’m sorry, but I’m not affiliated with Fry’s, so I’m unsure of who you would contact. I’d probably start with the number on the back of your credit card. Good luck!

    2. The .55 off is for new cardmembers only and expires after the first year. After that, you get .25 off but only if you meet the eligible spend requirement.

      1. I am a new card member, I’ve had the US Bank credit card for only a month and a half. Sorry but your response doesn’t answer the question.

      2. Thanks for the details, Phebe!

Ray, either of us are affiliated with Fry’s or Citi Bank. I suggest you call the number on the back of your card to ask your questions.

    3. This was solved. I called customer service and they took care of it for me. Turns out, I missed the sign update for the credit card to get the extra $0.55 off per gallon and was only credited with an additional $0.25 instead. But they went ahead and gave it to me anyways. So I redeem a 1,000 points each time I fill up now for a $1.00 off per gallon, PLUS I get another $0.55 off per gallon for using the Fry’s credit card, so I get a $1.55 off per gallon.

  5. Why do these places calculate things like the government does and make things way more complex than they need do. Have a 1 or 2 month rolling balance – use all points available in that time or lose ’em and start over. It is IDIOTIC to have a program like this it basically forces people to forfeit points. Perhaps that’s the point – after all someone has to pay that discount.

    1. I would love it if unused points rolled over to the next month. I’ve looked at the beginning of the month and realized I was $1 short for getting another discount. It’s annoying to lose 99 points. Obviously, I could have looked before the end of the month and spent another dollar, but I don’t track it that closely. Even if I had, after I shopped the last time for the month, would I really have wanted to go back in and spent another $1 after I realized I was short? The discount is nice, but I think of it all as a bonus and it makes me feel better. I don’t calculate the fuel points into my buying decision, with the rare occasion that I purchase gift cards for places we’d go anyway. I wish the rollover was different, but I am happy to get the discount when I can.

  6. I have .50 off a gal. left over from June. I haven’t driven very much and I still have a full tank of gas. I hate to lose my fuel points. What can I do?

    1. I’m not affiliated with Fry’s/Kroger or their gas program. You can call their customer service and ask. I received an email about a month ago, saying I could get $0.75 off my regular in-store purchase for each fuel reward I had earned. They gave me a link, to load a digital coupon. Unfortuatnely, it was a personalized link and can’t be shared. Maybe you received the same offer and didn’t notice, it went to spam, or they’d be willing to give you credit or something similar. It doesn’t hurt to ask. It’s not much, but it’s better than nothing. Hope they can help!
      800-576-4377

    2. Store that gas into gas cans at least the five (5) gallons ones. I have three at home in my garage! They sure do come in handy

    3. Buy some gas cans. Hey all 35 gallons every time you use your discount.

  7. Hi, I have 510 points from May and 519 from June. If I go to Circle K, it will take the highest which is .50 cents, the same for both months. But which points will be deducted? Thanks

    1. You won’t have to do anything. Even though 519 is higher than 510, it’s an equal rewards amount, so the oldest will be applied for your discount. The May points (that will expire first) will be taken off, so you’ll be set for saving next month too!

  8. For 6 months min I have called CircleK about my Frys card not processing when I try to get gas and use my points. Any advise? I shop Frys only and I’m not able to redeem my points with CircleK. Thank you

    1. I wish I could help you, but I’m not affiliated with Fry’s or Circle K. I’m not sure what the issue would be. I’d contact Fry’s customer service, though, not Circle K. It’s probably related to your number/account linking correctly, not a Circle K issue. Good luck!

    2. I can no longer use mine either. Says invalid loyalty number but it works fine at the fry’s store and pumps. :(

      1. I had the same experience at a Circle K recently. Super frustrating since they still prompted me to enter it. I called their customer service and they told me they suggest “trying another pump or another station.” That wasn’t a great answer for me. When I asked for a credit they told me they couldn’t. I had to get firm and almost demand my $10.51. Finally, they gave me a credit to my VIP card, but not before telling me I needed to go back to Circle K and speak to them. That wouldn’t work at my store. 99% chance the cashiers would have no clue what to do. Long story to say … I’m not sure customer service will help and I’m not sure if select stores aren’t working or all Circle K’s aren’t now. I wish I could help, but I’m not affiliated with them.

  9. Are postage stamp purchases eligible for fuel points?

    1. I’m sorry, but I’m not 100% sure. You can call Fry’s customer service at 800-KROGERS (800-576-4377).

    2. No

  10. I have 92 points on last month and 42 on this month. How do I redeem last months?

    1. Unfortunately, it you don’t hit at least 100 points each month, you don’t earn a reward. For every 100 you hit, you get one reward.

  11. I haven’t used my card in a long time how do I check my points

    1. They are on your receipt when you shop or log in to your Fry’s account online and go to “my account”. They are listed there also. ~ Gina
