First off, this isn’t my normal bargain post, though I think it’s a great deal . . . in money and time! I don’t like outside activities to take much of either. This is perfect for our family who likes to have dinner together each night.
I’m posting this for selfish reasons — I want to see enough kids participate so that my kids can have fun on their team and playing other teams. It’s the first year our church (Grace Community Church) has done this, so it’s starting out fairly small. Its a program for kids age 4 – 8th grade. My 8th grade son will be playing and so will one of my 6th grade daughters.
Why I love the idea? Practices are only one hour each week (Tues. or Thurs.) and games are another hour (Saturday) — small commitment, but still enough fun for the kids.
Here’s what you need to know:
Upward Basketball is for boys and girls from 4 years old through 8th grade. Upward Sports provides an encouraging and positive environment for kids to have fun learning a sport while building friendships with other kids their ages. Families are busier than ever, so our family-friendly schedule - one-hour games and one-hour practices each week – is designed with you in mind! Caring adult coaches will help each child learn the fundamental skills of their sport, while encouraging them to be their best, not only as an athlete, but also as a person and a child of God. In Upward, every child gets to play and every child learns what it means to really WIN.
Registration fee is $85 (includes Reversible Jersey, Shorts, Award Poster, The Big Story DVD, End of Season Award, Basketball Car Magnet, Parent Guide to Upward Basketball, Participant Box, TeamUpward.com Tickets). Additional members of family get $10 off.
Here are the important dates: Yes, I’m telling you this very late. The evaluation is tonight. If you can’t make it, you can still participate, but it will be better if you can. Register as soon as you can, though.
