40 lbs of Produce $10 ~ Market on the Move ~ Phoenix & Tucson Areas

market_on_the_move
I haven’t posted about this for a long time.  Honestly, it’s because I have conflicted feelings about it.  Some weeks can be great and others not so great.  BUT, all in all, it can be an spectacular deal.  The best advice I have for you is to check their Facebook page each week.  They update the page with what varieties of produce they will have available.  They may limit some of them and some of them may be close to expiration.  On the other hand, you may be able to walk away with more than you know what to do with, of your favorite item, and it may be completely fresh.

If you can find a produce buddy and split the cost of the produce, I think that’s the best way to do it.  :)  Or, you can make many people happy by sharing it.  It can be a lot of food!

So, what am I talking about? . . .

Every Saturday, Market on the Move is at various locations around Phoenix and Tucson.  (Locations vary slightly from week to week.)  You get around 60 pounds of produce for $10.  You can bring a laundry basket or boxes or they also provide them.

Remember, they let you know what produce they are expecting on their Facebook page each week.  Right now, they say to expect these (though possibly not everywhere):  Sunburst, Roma and grape tomatoes, cucumbers, gray, yellow and Italian squash, eggplant, bell and mini peppers.

If you’ve gone recently, please share your thoughts in the comments below.  Thanks!

The first time I went was a year ago with a friend. Watermelon. Lettuce. Peppers and tomatoes. It was good. Then I went two weeks ago amd got eggplants tomatoes and peppers. Everything was bruised and nearly bad that time so it wasnt quite worth it. I appreciate the tip to check their offerings on facebook ahead of time

I tend to agree with you. Unless you can use a lot of whatever they’re offering, it may not be for you. Thanks for the input!

I have been doing these for a few months now, along with a couple of friends. Although often the offerings are varied between fresh and almost rotten, we get far more than $10 worth. I bring it all home with the expectation to prepare and freeze the majority. I have loved having the fresh veggies available for cooking without having to spend the extra money! The ones I don’t use, i recycle into my compost pile, so no waste for us. Thanks for posting the facebook page, I didn’t know they had one!

Thanks for the feedback. I agree that it can be a super value, especially if you can share it. Fresh veggies can get expensive. If you can split them up and have a plan to freeze or can the extras, you will get your value out of something they have — probably always!

Their Facebook page is great since it gives you current information on what they will be offering. Glad you found it!
