This is another public service announcement, for those still scrambling for another gift.\u00a0 (My battery charger one is here<\/a>, if you missed it.)<\/p>\n Codenames<\/a> is the best!\u00a0 (That’s my Amazon affiliate link.\u00a0 Making a purchase earns me a small commission.)<\/p>\n We have played it with several different groups of people and almost all have gone out and bought it for themselves.\u00a0 It’s that much fun!<\/strong><\/p>\n If you have teens or adults who like to get together and play games, this might be a new favorite!<\/p>\n Younger kids can play, but it’s a little more of a struggle, depending on how they process things.\u00a0 I often think games work for younger than what the manufacturer lists, but not this one.\u00a0 They say 10 and older, but I think older is definitely better.\u00a0 We’ve played with 10-12 year olds and they have fun, but let’s just say it’s not like playing with adults or older kids.\u00a0 Their clues are a bit torturous sometimes.\u00a0 :)\u00a0 If you have younger kids, you may want to check out the Disney version here<\/a>.<\/p>\n It’s simple to learn.\u00a0 You make two teams, but the number can be flexible.\u00a0 If they aren’t even, it’s not super critical.\u00a0 I’d say it’s most fun if you have 6 or more.<\/p>\n Cards are set up in a grid. \u00a0 The clue giver from each team has a map that shows which words are theirs, their opponents, neutral, and the assassin.\u00a0 The clue giver from each team gives one-word clues that can point to multiple words on the board.\u00a0 The first to get all their words wins.\u00a0 If anyone chooses the assassin, the game ends immediately and that team loses.<\/p>\n Games probably take about 20 minutes and are usually full of laughs with just the right amount of frustration thrown in.\u00a0 There’s also a good dose of cheating that can go on, intentionally and unintentionally.\u00a0 We’ve considered making the clue giver leave the room while guesses are being made, but you’ll have to decide on that one.\u00a0 :)<\/p>\n We love games around here.\u00a0 Some of our other favorites are shown here<\/a>.\u00a0 Hover over each one, for a quick description.\u00a0 They didn’t give me much space, but will give you a taste of why we like it.<\/p>\n If you get Codenames (or have it!), let me know what you think!<\/p>\n
