SRP ~ Summer Hours for Time of Use Customers ~ Changes May 1st
This is a reminder for all you SRP Time-of-Use users out there . . . The peak (expensive) time for using electricity is from 1pm – 8pm Monday through Friday, beginning May 1, 2013. (Weekends and holidays are all off-peak hours.) These hours will go through the end of October.
This is just one of their plans. Check out the link above, if you have a similar plan, with different hours or want to look into your choices.
For years, I didn’t use this plan. My husband convinced me it would be insane since I stay home all day. (Well, I do get out from time to time, but you get the point!) Neither of us are willing to sweat or have our guests sweat during peak summer hours. We were pleasantly surprised that we changed very little, nobody sweats, and we save money.
I tried it out during a risk-free time a couple years ago. I figured I had nothing to lose and haven’t ever switched back. Unfortunately, that risk-free offer ended, but it still might be worth the risk to give it a try.
I almost always do our laundry and run the dishwasher during off peak times. That’s the only change I made. (Our pool filter was already running at night.) We keep our thermostat where we’re comfortable, at all times. We cook, vacuum, use the computer, etc. when we need/want to. I’m too lazy to go check what we saved last year, but two years ago, we saved just over $210. That’s about $19 a month for changing my laundry and dishwasher running schedule — worth it to me! I’m guessing we’d save without even changing those, but I’m not sure.
