Fry’s ~ Donate to Community Programs (No Cost to You!)

community_rewards_frys

If you haven’t signed up for Community Rewards with Fry’s, make sure you have.   There is no cost to you and a non-profit you believe in can benefit.  There are all types to choose from.  I just checked my account and our church youth group has $7.14 from me.  It’s not huge, but if everyone did that, there would be a nice fund for them to access for whatever was needed.  Plus . .  it’s still adding up!

Here are some general details of the program, or just to to this link to get started.

  • Community Rewards makes it easy to make a difference. You can enroll online, swipe your Shopper’s Card and earn rewards for your favorite non-profit organization
  • There’s no cost to you, and you will continue to earn your fuel points
  • You can link your Shopper’s Card to one organization at a time. And you can see exactly how much you’re helping by viewing your contribution online each quarter

(I’m a Bzz Agent for this program this time around, though I’ve told you about it before.)  :)

Fry’s Coupon Policy Change 10/1/14 ~ Ending Double & $1 Coupons :(

frys_logo

Well, we were wrong.  All those rumors were true.  Effective October 1, 2014, Fry’s is ending double/$1 value coupons.  Here’s the full policy.

Honestly, I’m mad.  I’m not upset that they stopped.  Of course, I prefer that they continue, but I can handle the change.  They’re a business and need to do what they need to do.  I get it.  But, they’ve been lying to us.  All along, they’ve been denying that it’s happening.  We’ve called corporate and asked, others have, we’ve talked to varying store managers, their Facebook page has denied it — up until the day before it’s changing.  Susan even called today (a corporate contact) and he denied it or (possibly?) didn’t know.  When asked for their policy (on their Facebook page), they would share it on Oct 1.  The secrecy and last minute “reveal” is why I’m mad.  Communication . . . where was it??

But, I still hold my firm view that we aren’t entitled to anything from Fry’s.  We have freedom and can take our business elsewhere, just as they can change their policies.  I like Fry’s, but I don’t feel a compulsion to shop there to give them business.  On the other hand, I don’t feel like intentionally taking business away from them, out of anger.  I’m responsible to make money saving decisions for my family and that’s what I’ll continue to do.

Fry’s will still have some great deals, but we have options.  They will continue to provide the popular fuel points, Friday freebies, and gift card bonuses.  (Don’t forget that Safeway does, too — minus the freebie.)  We also know there will be times we can get much better deals at Safeway or Bashas’ that will both continue to raise the value of coupons.  Additionally, Walmart will match the advertised prices of other stores.  (Since Fry’s is not doubling coupons, you won’t lose that extra value you were getting at Fry’s.)  Costco and Sam’s is an appealing option for some things.  Finally, we can’t forget CVS , Walgreens, Target, and other stores.

So, we all have options.   What do you think you will do?

I will still shop at Fry’s, but it will be drastically decreased.  I like to ad match my produce at Walmart.  While I’m there, I might as well pick up my Fry’s ad matching items and save a trip to Fry’s.  I also see a shift to more shopping at Safeway, for me.  (If Bashas’ was closer, it might be there.  However, it’s not that far, so I may head there more often.)  With more shopping at Safeway, my fuel points will add up more quickly and I’ll start using their gift card perks instead of the ones Fry’s offers.  I also may have to step up my shopping at CVS, Walgreens, and Target, when it makes sense.  I won’t be boycotting Fry’s like some have said they’ll do.  I’ll shop there when I think they have the best deal or it’s the most convenient place to run in and get that “one thing” I need.  That’s me … what are your plans?

Note:  I have a busy day today, but I will adjust the prices on the Fry’s list sometime soon.  You’ll just have to do some mental math until I get to it.  :)   Sorry for the delay!

Here’s the full policy.

Channel 3 did a news story on it and have the news release from Fry’s.  I’ll copy it below.

“Fry’s Food Stores has announced a comprehensive price reduction plan, investing millions of dollars to reduce thousands of prices across the store. Fry’s started reducing prices throughout September, and all new low prices will officially be in place starting October 1.

The Fry’s team carefully selected items that are frequently found in most customers’ shopping carts to ensure all customers would benefit from the price reductions.

The items range from fruits and vegetables to grocery and household staples. National and private label brands are included in the widespread price reduction.

The program includes a significant number of lower prices in natural foods and organics, reinforcing a rapid increase in natural foods sales over the last decade. That trend is accelerated with the highly successful launch of the Simple Truth line of products, a Kroger exclusive. Fry’s is rewarding natural foods and organic customers as part of this initiative as well.

As part of this investment in lower prices for all customers, Fry’s has made the decision to stop its current coupon promotion (every coupon equals $1 or double couponing in Yuma’s two stores) effective Oct. 1, 2014.  The 120 Fry’s stores will continue to accept manufacturer coupons, digital coupons, e-coupons, valid printables and Catalina coupons at face value.

“We continue to leverage our scale as one of the largest retailers to work with suppliers to reduce costs, and in turn pass those savings along to our customers,” said JoEllen Lynn, Fry’s spokesperson.

How Does Saving Star Work? ~ Changes Coming October

savingstar_logo

I just wanted to remind everyone that changes are coming to Saving Star, starting October 1st, 2014.  There are two major parts to their change.

  1.   The savings at Fry’s will no longer be automatic.  You will need to scan your receipt to get the credit into your account, starting 10/1/14.
Register and then you can submit receipts/UPC images online or through their app.  You will also need the product’s barcode.

And, there are a bunch of retailers added, that will take scanned receipts.

  1.   The Arizona stores that participate are Fry’s, Safeway, Bashas, Food City, Albertsons, Walgreens, CVS, Target, Kmart, Dollar General, Family Dollar, WinCo, Costco, & Sam’s Club.  There’s a complete list here.

Here’s the general information, if you haven’t used Saving Star before.

With SavingStar, you can save eCoupons to your grocery store loyalty cards or to your Saving Star account and get credited when you swipe your card at checkout or when you submit your receipt online or through their app.  The savings doesn’t come off at the register, it gets credited to your SavingStar account, within a week or two.  (Their official time is 2 – 22 days. )  If you scan your receipt, you have until three days after the offer expires.  You can request your payment via Paypal, bank deposit, or gift card when you reach $5.

The only “automatic” stores in Arizona are CVS and Bashas’.  You will enter the store’s loyalty card number once and savings will trigger whenever you use your card and buy the specified products.

There is a “Healthy Offer of the Week.”  Every Tuesday a new coupon is available to load for fresh produce.

They also have one item each Friday that you’ll get 100% cash back!  You have through Sunday to make your purchase.

The Arizona stores that participate are Fry’s, Safeway, Bashas, Albertsons, Walgreens, CVS, Target, Kmart, Dollar General, Family Dollar, WinCo, Costco, & Sam’s Club.

Before the receipt scanning was needed, I just loaded everything and considered anything I received a bonus.  Now, it will take more effort and planning.  It will be easiest to head to CVS or Bashas’ for the Friday freebie, if that’s convenient and you need other items there.

Saving Star savings is not meant to be combined with paper coupons.  Here’s their official statement on that:

SavingStar eCoupons will work whether or not you combine them with other services’ coupons, but they are not intended to be used this way.  Generally, manufacturers state that it is against their policies for shoppers to redeem more than one manufacturer’s coupon for the same purchase.  Using in-store coupons in combination with SavingStar eCoupons is not a problem.  In the future, we may implement mechanisms to limit the combination of SavingStar eCoupons with other manufacturer coupons.

Facebook Problems? ~ Get Bargain Believer to Show Up in Your Feed!

facebook

I’ve received quite a few emails recently, asking how to get Facebook updates from Bargain Believer to show up in your news feed.

The very best way seems to “like,” comment, and share posts regularly.  The people that do that say they see all the updates.  As a bonus, Facebook shows the posts with the most love, more often.  So, we love all of you that interact with our page!  It helps those who want to get the updates, but choose to remain quiet.

If you are opposed to that, hover over “liked” and make sure “following” is checked.  You have hope, but it doesn’t seem like much.  Most likely, you’ve already done that and nothing has changed.  :(

Lastly, you can check to “get notifications,”  which is an option under the “like” button.  Some love get notifications, some don’t.  Try it for awhile and see what you think.  You can always uncheck it later.

If Facebook won’t show you the love, there are other ways to follow.

Email - One email per day, usually around 3pm — good way to quickly look & see what you missed

RSS

Twitter

You could give one of those a shot or just stalk the website page each day.

Anyone have any other insight about getting your “liked” pages to show up?

Fry’s Dbacks VIP Promotion ~ Redeem Points by 10/28, but Sooner is Better!

dbacks_redemption

I’ve told you about the Dbacks VIP promotion before.  Make sure you remember to cash out your points, before the program ends on October 28, 2014.  You have until the end of the season (end of September) to accumulate points.  Just keep in mind that it’s first come, first served, for prizes.  Some prizes clear out quickly, so you may want to check out what you have now.  You may only need a few more, to get what you want.

Sometimes, you’ll see participating items indicated in their ad.  Other times, you’ll just notice shelf tags throughout the store.  I seem to end up with enough points to get something every year, without even trying.  Check your points!  Redemption starts at just 25 points!

Head to Frysfood.com.

After you log in, click  . . .
“Savings” at the top
Then choose “Promotions”
“D-backs V.I.P. Rewards”
“Prizes & Rewards:

(Fry’s sent me a gift box with Gatorade, Dbacks slippers, Shamrock Farms & Blue Bell freebie coupons –  for telling you to cash in your points.  Pretty sweet for me, huh?  This is the stuff I love to tell you about anyway.  Fry’s has great promotions — take advantage of them!)  :)

Fry’s ~ Donate to Community Programs (at no cost to you)

community_rewards

We’ve sent this out before, but you have to re-enroll every year and now is the time….

This is a simple way to support a non-profit organization.  If you already have an online Fry’s account, it takes about 30 seconds to set up and doesn’t cost you a penny.  You will have to sign up for each year.  (FYI . . . They have done away with the previous program, where you could buy gift cards to raise money.)

You just go to this link and then enter the number given from the organization or search by name.  You can contact an organization you know about and ask them to sign up, if they’re not.  There are so many organizations listed, everything from pets to food banks to churches to local schools.  You can also enter a location in the search field.  I live in Prescott, so I put in that and all the organizations up here came up.  I chose to donate to our public library as we borrow items several times a month.

If you don’t have one, Juli got this information from the youth group at her church, Grace Community Church in Tempe, AZ.  She has three kids in the group.  The money won’t go directly to her kids, but we can hope there’s an abundance and the cost of camp will be lower next year or they will be able to provide scholarships to kids who need them.

Grace Community Church’s code:  81111

No pressure to use that code, though — if you have another one, please sign up for that.  I just hate to see great things going to waste!
