Changes to Saving Star

savingstar_logo

Saving Star is making some changes.  If you hav logged in to your Saving Star account recently, you’ve probably seen the big box on top explaining things.

If not, here it is:

Important Account Change: Kroger

The way you save at Kroger stores will soon change. Starting on October 1, Kroger will transition from an “automatic” (loyalty card) retailer and instead participate as a receipt-scanning retailer. This means that you will redeem SavingStar offers at Kroger stores by submitting a picture of your receipt, instead of linking SavingStar offers to your Kroger card. This change impacts all Kroger stores, including: Kroger, Dillons, Baker’s, Gerbes, Fred Meyer, Fry’s, JayC, King Soopers, City Market, PayLess, Owen’s, QFC, Ralphs, and Smith’s. This was a corporate decision made by Kroger.

All SavingStar offers redeemed at Kroger-owned stores using your loyalty card must take place by September 30 (rewards will post to your account on or before October 9). Starting October 1, all redemptions will be credited when you submit a picture of your receipt, either through the SavingStar app or SavingStar.com.

New Retailers

We are pleased to announce that also starting in October, you’ll be able to redeem SavingStar offers at new stores – Safeway, Vons, Food 4 Less and H-E-B – by submitting a picture of your receipt using the SavingStar app (or submitting it through SavingStar.com).

Other recently added retailers include: Walmart, Target, Kmart, BJ’s, Costco, Sam’s Club, Walgreens, Dollar General, Family Dollar, Meijer, and WinCo.

If you are new to Saving Star, sign up here and then download their mobile app.  For stores without a loyalty card (like Target) you will need to submit a receipt through the app.

So for now if you shop at CVS, Albertsons or Bashas, you will still get automatic savings via your loyalty card or Upromise keytag at Albertsons.

Starting October 1st, you will now need to take pictures of your Fry’s receipts and submit it via the app to get your savings.  Safeway is also being added, so that’s a bonus.  With the app, they cover most stores.  But, it’s just another step for us now.  I kind of liked not having to take pictures.

Is Fry’s Ending Double Coupon Policy? (Or Dollar Value) . . .

frys_logo

I wish I kept a list of all the questions/comments/reports we’ve received regarding Fry’s ending/changing their current coupon policy.  You’d be shocked at the number and the variety.

We’ve heard it all . .  or, so we think until we hear something new.  :)  You’ve been told (by managers, cashiers, and others) that Fry’s will stop doubling coupons, stop making coupons worth $1, stop taking printables, only take digitals, limit you to one coupon total, limit you to one coupon per item . . . let’s see, there must be more.  Oh, my favorite to not believe . .  . they will no longer accept any types of coupons.  We’ve also been given all sorts of dates, some that are come and gone.  Basically, we’ve heard a little bit of everything.

It’s not that I don’t believe that you’ve heard what you report.  I just don’t believe that the people who are telling you, have a credible, original source.  I think there has been a lot of speculation that is making its rounds.

The Bargain Believer team has asked different managers and they all say they same type of thing.  There are people who abuse their current coupon policy and things could change.  They don’t have a date or plan, at this point.  That’s it . . . nothing concrete or specific to worry about yet.

I believe that corporate is telling stores to crack down on coupon misuse.  Hooray for that!  Some people who go to extremes and abuse the policy are ruining it for the rest of us.  I think it’s been a hot topic of discussion and has started rumors circulating among employees and shoppers.  At this point, that’s all I think it is, but a potential may be around the corner.

Here are my personal thoughts (stress on personal) . . . We’re lucky to live in a very competitive grocery market.  Stores will always be competing for our business.  It would be a very bold step for any of the stores who double coupons, to stop.  But, it could happen.  I feel they would lose a lot of customers and many would head to Walmart, to ad match.  Fry’s would have to determine if those are customers they can afford (or want?) to lose.  Fry’s is a business.  They need to make money.  If they are giving too much away, it’s in our best interest that they don’t.  They won’t exist if it gets excessive and they don’t make a profit.  The competitive Arizona grocery market would slowly disappear.  No, I don’t feel sorry for them.  At the same time, I don’t feel like they can afford to feel sorry for us either.  They will need to make business decisions and we need to roll with it, good or bad.  I know that I’ll always be able to save, with the knowledge I have about sales/coupons/stocking up, etc.  I may have to change my game a little, even pay more, but I don’t feel that if double coupons ends, that I’ll go hungry.  I know there are some rare exceptions, but I think most of you would find the same to be true, if coupon doubling stopped.  Slight adjustments in your budget may have to be made, but I think it would be less devastating than you might imagine.  Again — all this is my personal opinion and I realize you won’t all agree.

The bottom line is that each store seems to be enforcing policies a little differently, recently.  (Some are limiting transactions, number of total coupons accepted for each product, etc)  You will need to learn your local store’s expectations and make sure you’re following their rules.  If you don’t feel they’re fair, ask them about it.  If you still feel strongly, call their corporate office.

If we hear something official, we’ll let you know.  If you see something in writing, before that time, let us know.

Note:  I can’t even find their current coupon policy online anymore.  I only see Yuma’s policy.  However, this doesn’t freak me out.  It’s been missing for awhile and nothing has changed.  Phew!

Free Ivory Bar Soap (3 packs) at Fry’s

$0.25 off ONE Ivory Body Wash OR ONE 3 Bar
Eunice found us this great deal at Fry’s!  You can print two of these $0.25/1 Coupons.com coupons and pick up free soap!  If you printed the coupon recently, it probably isn’t available to print again.  (Thanks, Harold!)

Ivory Bar Soap, 3 pack   $1.00 (thru 9/30)
$0.25/1 Coupons.com (gone if not first coupon shown after clicking link, worth $1)
$0.25/1 Ivory Body Wash or Bars 08/31/2014 P&G Insert (exp 9/30/14) (worth $1)
$0.25/1 Fry’s digital (can’t use w/ paper coupon, only worth 25¢)
Final price:  FREE

If you have one insert coupon and you print two of the printable, you’ll score 3 packs or 9 bars for FREE!!!!

I use Ivory bar soap to make homemade powder laundry detergent.   It’s super easy.  You can read the recipe here.  You’ll be out about $5 to get the borax and washing soda, but you’ll make several batches of detergent.  I think the break down comes to about a penny a load!  I like a little scent in mine, so I add a cup of Purex Crystals or Downy Unstopables too.

See Fry’s list for more deals.

(Thanks, Eunice!)

FREE Brawny Paper Towels & Hormel Pepperoni ~ Printable Coupon!

brawny_55

I’m not sure if we missed this $0.55/1 Brawny paper towel coupon or it recently appeared.  I just noticed it when I went to print my Hormel pepperoni coupon and I think it’s new.

Print them both twice and pick up four freebies at Fry’s — two of each!

Brawny Paper Towels   $1.00 (thru 9/30) (Thanks, Cara!)
$0.55/1 Brawny Paper Towels 09/07/2014 RP Insert (exp 10/7/14) (worth $1)
$0.55/1 printable (worth $1) NEW
Final price:  FREE

Hormel Pepperoni (3 oz)   1.00  (usually in bin by meat area, not refrigerated)
$0.55/1 printable (worth $1)
Final price:  FREE

Notes:

  • The Brawny coupon says “package,” just like the insert coupon says.  I hear that some cashiers have told you (last sale) that the single pack is not a package.  I disagree, but I’m not you cashier or store manager.  I can tell you that I’ve used the insert and printable coupons and they both scan –if you can get them to go that far.
  • We’re getting reports that the Brawny coupon isn’t doubling everywhere.  Watch!  Bring it to your cashier’s attention, so they can fix it right now.  If not, take your receipt to customer service (same trip, or next time you’re in, if you missed it).
  • There’s a good chance your store will be out of Brawny.  The sale goes through 9/30, but get a raincheck this week.  It may not be in their ad next week, so they won’t have to get your a raincheck.  (It isn’t pictured, but it listed under the Angel Soft pic — if they can’t find it.)

+ Check out the Fry’s weekly ad.
+ They double manufacturer’s coupons, up to $1 total value.  All worth $1 for a limited time.
+ Confused?  Abbreviations & Fry’s Store policies
+ Multiple manufacturers’ coupons are listed, but you can only use one for each product purchased
+ All listed coupons with dates come from Sunday newspaper inserts.
+ Get coupons in the Arizona Republic for $1 per week (3 months, then cancel or pay full) HERE!  (Wed. & Sun. delivery)
+ There’s a chance your store won’t double coupons that say “Do not double.” (During the current “all coupons worth $1″ promotion, they are also all worth $1. The databases I use do not state which ones those are. Keep that in mind when you’re deciding if you want to pay the listed price. I’m assuming your store will double all manufacturer’s coupons.
+ eCoupons (digital) can be loaded to your Fry’s VIP card from the Fry’s website. The savings will automatically come off at the register.  They WILL NOT double, so are often worth less than a paper coupon that will double.  They cannot be used with a paper coupon for the same product.  The registers will force the acceptance of the eCoupon and the cashier will give you back your paper coupon, even if it’s worth more.  You can unload coupons, if you change your mind.
