Channel 12 Bargain Believer Coupon Segment ~ Video Link

For those of you who don't know, I did a segment on Channel 12 News today.  It didn't go exactly the way I thought, but not all in bad ways.  I'm really not an up front person, though I've been thrown in that position more often in the past few years.  I don't get nervous speaking in front of groups, but the camera thing is a whole different story.  I didn't know what to expect, but the team was very professional and the casual setting put me at ease.

My husband said if I didn't put this video link up here, he would.  He knows my password and I know he's serious, so here it is.  :)

Thank you all for your kind words and encouragement.  I fumbled through part of it, but it is what it is.

Attempt to skip over my answer to the question, "How do you take advantage of online coupons without a printer?"  I completely missed that one.  I thought she was asking how to print from a phone.  Obviously, I was just a tad off.  Oops!  If you don't have a printer . . . get Sunday coupon inserts, use digital coupons, or an app like Safeway's.  :)

I'm doing a free coupons class in Phoenix, if you want to learn more.  (Saturday, July 21st from 2pm – 4pm.  See link for more details)

  1. I thought you did a fantastic job and I totally agree with the other person, you did not look nervous at all,  I personally would've have toally choked!!! lol  I thought it was so cool that I can finally put a face to the name of the person that makes my life so much easier and saves my family so much money. You're so awesome, I wouldn't know what to do without you :)

    1. As much as I'm not comfortable being the face behind the website sometimes, I understand wanting to make that connection.  I would like to know who's "typing at" me.  :)  I'm glad you are saving for your family.  Good job!  Thanks for the encouragement!

  2. My husband I watched it & we thought you did a great job!!  Did you know what questions they were going to ask, did you guys practice first? I would have been so nervous!

    1. I knew the points that would be on the screen, since I made them.  My understanding was that they would say each and I would elaborate.  That didn't happen within the first few seconds, so that was a little surprise.  The first question was also a total surprise, but nothing too earth shattering.  So, I pretty much let everything I practiced in my mind, about each point, go down the drain after that.  I thought I had it all nicely semi-scripted in my mind, but it wasn't close to that!  I was making it up as I went along.

Some questions were mentioned very quickly once I got there — as in, in about 45 sec.  I totally misunderstood the printer question.  I thought they wanted to know how to print from a phone.  I guess we just discussed digital coupons and figured they would be asking me something different??

I did not practice with them at all.  It's a weird pace and atmosphere there.  I kind of jumped in, all of the sudden.  It's all a very odd experience.  I was only slightly nervous, more feeling awkward about the unknowns.  I didn't know which camera to look into, if I was on screen during those lists (assumed not), when to cut my answer short, when to elaborate, etc.  I guess they said the normal worry is to run out of things to say.  I didn't worry about that at all.  I do two hour coupon classes.  I have plenty to say.  :)  I was worried I'd only get through half the points or something.

Beforehand, I was told the segment was 3 min. once and 4 – 5 min. another time.  It was about 8 min. including the intro and other things.  The part with me was almost 7.  I prefer longer to shorter and was glad to have the extra time.  I was afraid I wasn't going to be able to really explain anything.  It was minimal, but I tried to work in some useful information.

So . . . I attempted to just wing it and you saw what happened.  :)

Thanks for watching and for the kind words!

  3. You did awesome!

    1. Thanks, Jess!  I came out alive and that's what I planned on . . . expectations met.  :)  I really didn't know how I would do or what to expect, so decided that was a good goal.  I succeeded!

  4. You did a great job!  You don't look or sound nervous either.  I think my tongue would have been tied.  LOL!

    1. It was a weird sort of nervous.  It was more of an awkward . . where am I supposed to look?  Am I on the camera now or just the graphic?  Should I babble a little more on this or cut it short?   The casual atmosphere was nice.  It was less stressful than I thought, though I wish I would have listened better to that printer question!!  My new way to rationalize that one is that movie stars see a scripts and get many takes.  Little old me just had to wing it, so I can't beat myself up too much.  :)

      Thanks for the kind words!
