Harkins Rewards Program Explained ($5 on your Birthday!)

Harkins Rewards is here.  All you need to know to make the most of their reward program is here.  My favorite part is the birthday reward.  No more free popcorn voucher on your birthday or when you buy a $25 gift card, but there are some benefits to the new program!

Most noteworthy highlights about My Harkins Rewards:

  • First, sign up for My Harkins Awards here or download their app.
  • $5 award for every 200 points earned
  • 1 point for every $1 spent
  • $5 award for concessions 7 days before your registered birthday, valid up to 14 days (So, it’s good the week before and after your birthday.)
  • Optional Popcorn Perks can be added; $30 for 12 months; get one free upgradable popcorn with each ticket purchase, good for 180 day after issued, 36 max per 12 months (Pay $1 to upgrade to a large or $1.50 for an extra large.  Both come with refills.)
  • “Qualifying purchases” are all detailed here (details on gift card, movie vouchers, exclusions, etc.)

When getting tickets, simply provide the phone number associated with your membership and verify the membership information.  That’s how everything will be tied to you.

Perks that are going away . . .

  • No popcorn/shirt offer for free popcorn
  • No free popcorn voucher when you buy a $25 gift card
  • No free popcorn on your birthday when you show ID

21 Comments on Harkins Rewards Program Explained ($5 on your Birthday!)

  1. Well, I just found out that I was out of popcorn perks… you have one year to use36 popcorns. Can anybody tell me if there were more than 10 good movies in this last year? Dang it

    1. I was a rough year for movie theaters ( and movie lovers, for sure). Sorry that you didn’t get great use out of your perks this year.

  2. When I bought my tickets last time the cashier at the window said I can add my receipts to my account since I couldn’t remember the phone number I put. I can’t find add receipt on my Harkins Account. If I can’t add it I’m going to be so upset. Harkins employees shouldn’t tell customers this is its bull.

    1. I’m not affiliated with Harkins. I would contact their customer service. Hopefully, the cashier was right and they can help you! It would be a bummer to lose all the points. Good luck!

  3. Once you sign up, how do you produce it at the theater? Will they send a card to use at the box office? Do you need to punch in your phone number somewhere?

    1. We emailed them and asked. I need to put the info above. Thanks for the reminder!

They said, “When prompted at the window, you will simply provide the phone number associated with your membership and verify the membership information.”

I’m not sure what membership info will need to be verified. Hopefully, people don’t go around stealing phone numbers to get free popcorn!

      1. How can I add a receipt to my rewards card. I wasn’t aware of the reward program til after I purchased my ticket!

        1. I’m not sure if you can do that or not. I’d contact their customer service and see if they can help you out. Good luck!

    1. Thanks! Honestly, things like this don’t worry me too much. I’m not providing banking information and most everything else is available online, if people want to dig for it. If I’m not wanting junk email, I use an alternate email address. I like Harkins news, so I don’t mind getting emails from them. I already choose to follow them on Facebook, so I like seeing their udpates.

  4. BE WARNED!! This is all about SELLING YOUR INFORMATION!! READ the TERMS and CONDITIONS!! You’ve been WARNED about this REWARD PROGRAM that you MUST SIGN UP for if you want to earn any points for movies or $30 Popcorn Perk. You MUST give your Physical Address, Full Name, and Birthdate! This information WILL BE VERIFIED with a Financial App, similar to an eVerify!! I tried signing up with a disposable phone and a PO Box and it would not let me proceed and gave me an “error message” stating that my identity could not be VERIFIED!! Also, be sure to READ the TERMS & CONDITIONS where you’ll find deep into the 5th page that by agreeing (you must agree or you will not be able to sign up) you’ve essentially signed your rights away and agree to hold Harkins harmless to any illegal acts made against you, slip and fall, forced and mandatory arbitration, AND HARKINS Will SELL your Personal Iinformation!!!!! AND as if this isn’t bad enough, it gets worse!! You’ll also hold HARKINS harmless from illegal acts or financial harm from these 3rd parties!!!!! Nice little gotcha!! Is this really worth some popcorn?? I’m getting the movie pass for $9.99 per month where I can see one movie every day of the month and will skip the popcorn and bring a bottled water! YOU’VE BEEN WARNED!! Shame on you Dan Harkins!!

    1. I figure most everything you sign up for takes your information and/or can be found online. But, it’s good to keep in mind, for those who want to keep it private. Thanks for pointing it out.

  5. Can you buy a concession without actually buying a movie ticket?

    1. I don’t think so. Even on the Popcorn Perks it says, “receive a free medium popcorn with the purchase of a movie”. So, you have to buy a ticket to get concession. Otherwise, I’d stop in for $1.50 popcorn all the time. :) ~ gina

    2. What Gina said is correct, no free popcorn. However, I bet if you wanted to actually fork over money for a concession they’d let you go in to do it. I’m also thinking that the $5 birthday credit will just appear on your card, so you could go in and use that. I’m totally guessing, but it seems like they push their big bag of popcorn, so I’d think they’d be willing to sell that to you at anytime. Besides some good movie popcorn to take home, I can’t imagine anyone wanting to just drop in for a $5 Coke. :)

    3. Yes, you can. My girls walked in with their cups and asked if they could get drinks and a popcorn. They were allowed to go to the counter and then they just have to give the person at the counter the phone number that the popcorn perks is registered under. I believe the guy at Harkins said you can get 32 popcorn vouchers to use per year.

      1. Interesting! I asked when I was there, after getting this question, and they told me you couldn’t. I guess it might vary location to location or person to person. Glad your girls were able to do it! It’s a good little stop for a snack, if the timing/location is right!

  6. My step daughter works for harkins and has known for months, no t-shirts and no popcorn for giftcard.

    1. I figured, thanks! I’m assuming they’ll get rid of the birthday freebie, too. I like the new $5 offer better, so I’m not complaining about that change. You have half a year to use it. :) Thanks for the info.

    2. NOT pleased with this change AT ALL. When Harkins came to YUMA, the only other theater here was really a dump. It’s since been SOLD — and is working to gain market share. Since I had loyalty cup AND shirt (purchased every year as Black Friday promo) I never even considered going to other theater. I sure will now. CONSUMERS here got screwed: CITY decided they wanted small indy ‘Main St. theater’ – so they REFUSED to allow a major multi-screen theater to come in.

      1. To be Devil’s Advocate to the Devil’s Advocate :) . . . I actually prefer the Popcorn Perks to the shirt. We don’t like lugging our shirt around (never opened it, so a waste for them to produce) and sometimes we want to go to the movie last minute and we don’t have it with us. The cups will remain the same as before, so nothing is gained or lost there.

I also like the $5 concession credit for your birthday. It’s good 7 days before and 180 after receiving it. I plan on having each person in my family sign up for their program, to get this perk. I have teens, so they can all get the app on their phones. That gives the five of us a total of $25 a year. We hardly ever went on our birthday, so we rarely got the popcorn voucher they offered. Then, we’ll just accumulate points in one account.

The only thing I don’t like about this program is that we will no longer get a popcorn voucher with a $25 gift card purchase. I would buy a gift card before purchasing tickets and use it for tickets — sometimes way before, sometimes right there when I was making my ticket purchase. I’ll miss this the most. We had our shirt, but didn’t have to pay for upgrades sometimes, since we could earn a few more that way.

Anyway, overall, I’m liking the new program!
