How does the Fry’s (Kroger) Cash Back program work?

The Fry’s (Kroger) cash back program keeps getting better & better since it began in 2018!  We have updated details for 2021, with everything you need to know about the program to save big!

Additional helpful details are below, but the quick summary of the Fry’s cash back program is  . . .

Load cash back offers to your VIP card before you shop, just like digital coupons.  When you purchase the product, you won’t get the discount at the register.  You will need to request the cash back later, in the form of a credit to your shopper’s card or through Paypal.

How do you get started & find Fry’s (Kroger) cash back offers?

Cash back offers are loaded to your VIP card, so you will need to have an online account set up.

You can go here to see the current list of Fry’s cash back offers.  (Kroger’s are here.)

Or, look for “Savings” on the top left menu bar of their website and then choose “Cash Back.”

In their app, tap “Savings” and then scroll down to view the offers available.

As soon as you click to load an offer, it’s ready to go.  Theoretically, you could do it in line before your card is scanned, but I’d give it a minute or two just in case!

You can search for offers by brand or category or just scroll through the existing offers and click to load the offers you’re interested in.

Make sure you also note that there are two tabs if you’re not seeing what you’re looking for.  There’s one for “All Deals” and another for “My Deals” (on website) or “Loaded Deals” (in app).  You won’t see your redeemed or loaded offers unless you’re looking under the right tab.

If you are an online shopper or search for a product on their website before you shop, the cash back offer will sometimes (stress on sometimes!) be listed under the product for easy loading.  Just make sure you click to activate the offer before you shop or place your online order.

These offers count towards your 150 digital coupon limit, so you may need to be selective when adding cash back offers if you also load a lot of digital coupons.  Expired offers will drop off and you don’t have to worry about unloading them, but you can’t get too click-happy in both places!

How long does it take to get Fry’s cash back credit?

Each time you buy a product you’ve activated an offer for, you should receive credit in your account within 7 days.  It’s usually faster than that, but that’s what their guidelines say.

How can you tell if you received your Fry’s (Kroger) cash back?

They don’t make it super easy to see that you’ve received your Fry’s cash back, but they have improved it, so we’ll just hope they keep improving it.

Make sure you’re in the “My Deals” tab and look at “Redeemed Deals.”  On a computer, it’s easy to see right away.  On a mobile, you’ll need to “Refine Results” and then choose “Redeemed Deals.”

You’ll be able to see what products you were given credit for purchasing, but it won’t show you if you earned more than one credit for offers that allow multiple products to be purchased.

Sadly, that page often just spins and you can’t see a thing, just your overall balance above.

Sometimes, the only way to know if you got all the credit you deserve is to watch your balance carefully to see if it goes up the correct amount.  I’ve even called and they can’t tell.  You really do have to keep track if you want to be sure.

If you believe you weren’t credited for an offer you should have been, give their customer service a call:  1-800-576-4377

How do you use your Fry’s (Kroger) cash back balance or cash out?

You will see your balance when you’re logged in on the cash back page.

Send that money to your shopper’s card (no minimum) or transfer it to your PayPal account once you hit $20.

Any money you send to your VIP card will be ready to use the next time you shop and use your card.  If you spend less than you transferred, the balance will remain for a future shopping trip.  After transferring your balance, you don’t need to worry about spending the full amount in one trip.

Usually, the cashier will ask if you want to use your balance, though sometimes they just press to apply it without telling you.  If you’re using self-checkout, you’ll be asked if you want the balance to be applied to your order.  (This is only after you manually cash out.  It doesn’t get transferred automatically.  You must request it.)

Your cash back balance can not be used to purchase fuel, gift cards, alcohol, tobacco products, lottery, money services, fees, or in the pharmacy.

You can only transfer money once a day, a maximum of $99.99 at a time.

Can Fry’s cash back offer disappear?

Once you have redeemed a Fry’s cash back offer, the offer will disappear.  Give it a couple of days and then check back.  Hopefully, it will be listed with your “My Deals” in the “Redeemed Deals” area.

If you have loaded an offer, it should be available to use until you redeem it.  If something disappears before you redeemed it, contact customer service at 1-800-576-4377.

What if you don’t get proper credit for Fry’s cash back offers?

If you don’t see the credit you’re expecting, give them a call.  Save your receipt and make sure you have it handy to answer their questions.  They will issue you the proper credit.  Fry’s customer service:  1-800-576-4377

Can you use Fry’s (Kroger) cash back offers more than once?

Each offer will have specific details listed on it.  Follow the guidelines set for each offer, as they will vary. Often, you can buy more than one of the same product and get multiple credits.

Here are some examples of the wording on the offers and what they mean:

“Redeem this offer up to 5x in a single transaction”
This means you can purchase up to 5 of the same item at one time.  You can now buy 3 now and 2 later.  The payout will multiply by the number you have purchased.

Buy TWO (2) RITZ Cheese Crispers (7 oz) and RITZ Crisp & Thins (7.1 – 10 oz), Get $1.50 cash back.
If nothing is mentioned about multiple redemptions, assume you can only do it once.  In this case, you would need to buy two to receive $1.50.

I haven’t seen these options later, but in case they pop up again, here are some other possibilities:

“Offer may be redeemed a total of FIVE (5) times.”
This means you can take full advantage of the offer up to 5 times, loading it only once.

“Redeem this offer up to 5x in a single transaction.  Offer may be redeemed a total of FIVE (5) times.”
Often, you’ll see these together.  It means you can purchase up to 5 qualifying products, up to 5 different times.  You could max out and get 25 of the same product if you want to go wild if you do 5 separate transactions.

Can you use Fry’s (Kroger) cash back offers and coupons on the same item?

The Fry’s/Kroger updated policy states that you cannot combine digital or paper coupons with cash back offfers.

The reality is that if either is used, people seem to still get the cash back.  Of course, this could change at any time.  Please realize that it is not what their policy allows.

I consider immediate savings better than cash back, so I always use coupons first and consider any cash back a bonus, but I don’t count on it when coupons are used.  Often, I load deals I might buy and then forget about them.

What are the exceptions for earning Fry’s (Kroger) cash back?

As stated above, their policy says you will not receive cash back if you use paper or digital coupons.

Additionally, each offer’s fine print tells you that you can’t get cash back on clearance or manager specials.

I’ve never seen this as a possibility, but they also say that if the value of the offer exceeds the selling price you will not receive cash back.

Can you combine Ibotta with Frys (Kroger) cash back offers?

Yes, you may combine Ibotta cash back with Fry’s cash back offers!  This is where your biggest savings will come in since these offers match up fairly often.

You can double-dip and get some super deals, even some freebies and moneymakers from time to time.  Read more about Ibotta here.

11 Comments on How does the Fry’s (Kroger) Cash Back program work?

  1. If you cash it out to your card, will you have the option to use it or not on your next purchase, or will it be deducted automatically? Also, have you noticed any pattern to when the cashback is credited to your account, like always on Wednesdays, or always 2 business days?

  2. Some of the cash back offers say “up to 5 times”. Say for instance you use it 2 times, can you use it 3 more times after that?

    1. I’m not 100% positive to be honest, and I think this program is still in the testing phase. I know it’s not at all Kroger stores. I think the coupon will stay there because even when you use it fully, it doesn’t go away. It just says “sent to balance”. I’ll try to find an offer that I will use and give it a try. Maybe I’ll buy 4 at self checkout and then buy the other one in a separate transaction just to test what I get back. If you find out before I do, please let us know. ~ Gina

    2. Yes, that is how it works, even when it says “Redeem this offer up to 5x in a single transaction,” it will work across multiple transactions.

  3. OOPS, my bad, I meant final price of .48 on the frozen veg

  4. Kroger Frozen Veg cash back offer is .40 off one pkg (not 2)so it would be only .44 if you bought one pkg

    1. Thanks! I changed the quantity. ~ Gina

  5. I’m not sure what their motivation is for setting up this program. In this limited selection of items that they have started out with, nearly every one of them is also available on Checkout 51 (except for Kroger branded items). Checkout 51 and Saving Star participate in sharing information so that you can’t redeem offers on both of those programs. It remains to be seen if you’ll be able to double dip by doing the cash back on Fry’s and on Checkout 51 for the same product. I imagine they will do information sharing (possibly by comparing the email address on your Fry’s account, Checkout 51 account, and Saving Star account). The only benefit that I see to using the Fry’s program is that you can immediately use the cashback funds on a future purchase (no minimum balance required). If you want PayPal, though, you have to wait until you have accumulated $20. (If I understand all of this correctly.) And, it would eliminate the need to scan paper receipts, like you have to do with Checkout 51 and the others.

    1. True. It doesn’t seem like a huge savings. I’m hoping there will be more coupons and more for store products that we don’t normally get coupons for. I have a different email for my Fry’s acct and checkout 51. So, that would work in my favor if they end up comparing. I stopped using Saving Star ages ago. They just took forever to get to a payout and I didn’t like if I had an offer saved on there, it wouldn’t let me save the same Fry’s digital. I much rather use the Fry’s digital if I have to choose one vs. scanning in my receipt. I’m still trying the Kroger frozen veggies tomorrow and I have both the digital and cashback coupon loaded. I’m curious which one it’s going to give me. Really…just another hoop to jump through to try to save some money. But, I’ll keep jumping. :) ~ Gina

  6. According to the Cash back FAQ:
Can I use Cash Back Offers as well as Digital Coupons on the same item?

Digital Coupons and Cash Back Offers may not be combined and are limited to one per item. Digital Coupons and paper coupons may also not be combined on the purchase of a single item.

    1. Thanks, Helen! I didn’t even see that section. :) I need more coffee. I’ll update the post. ~ Gina
