Safeway/Albertsons Monopoly Game FAQ’s

Sadly, Safeway / Albertsons stoppped doing  their Monopoly game in 2021.  This includes their affiliates like Safeway, Vons, Albertsons, Jewel-Osco, Shaw’s, Acme, Tom Thumb, Randalls, United Supermarkets, Pavilions, Star Market, Haggen & Carrs.

There is a new Safeway/Albertsons digital game.  It’s began in June & July of 2023.  I’m expecting it to happen each year around that time.  Win some great prizes now by playing Flavor Adventure!  Go here to read all about it.

What happened to Monopoly for Safeway/Albertsons?

The Monopoly game at Safeway/Albertsons usually started at the beginning of March and lasted for about two months.  However, it was quietly missing from their advertising in 2022.  I called their customer service to see what was up.  I was only told that it “has been discounted this year.” 2023 brought a new game called Flavor Adventure.  Updated information about that game is here.

NOTE:  All information below is for 2021.  Monopoly is not happening in 2022.

Do you need the app or cell phone to play Monopoly at Safeway/Albertsons?

You can play online, but it will save you from manually entering a lot of numbers if you get the Shop, Play, Win app for Monopoly in 2021.  It’s available for Apple or Android.

You will also need to have a digital Just for U account to redeem your prizes.  More about Just for U here.

How many Monopoly game tickets do you get?

You get one ticket for each $25 purchase, up to $100 or 4 tickets per transaction.

You also get a ticket for each sponsored vendor product you purchase.  These are often tagged in the store or highlighted in their weekly ads.  However, sometimes you’ll get extra tickets and not know why.  My guess is that some store brands produce extra tickets, though they aren’t all tagged.

Additionally, you’ll get a bonus game ticket for every 10 participating vendor products you purchase.  (Example:  If you purchase 10 qualifying products, you’ll get 11 tickets.  If you purchase 20, you’ll get 12.)

During the last week of the promotion, stores are varying.  Some people are receiving hundreds of tickets for small transactions (extra are earned when redeeming prizes, so even for totals of $0!).  Others are reporting their stores have run out of tickets.

If you’re really ambitious you can get two game tickets by mail with a hand-written, self-addressed stamped envelope sent to:

“SHOP, PLAY, WIN! Game” Ticket Request
Attn: Promotions Coordinator
P.O. Box 3058
Kennesaw, GA 30156

What happened to the Monopoly game board & collecting pieces?

In 2021, the Safeway/Albertsons Monopoly game will not have a physical game board.  Everything is kept track of electronically once you enter or scan in your game pieces.

You will not be collecting pieces to earn specific prizes, as in the past.

Each ticket stands by itself.  The prizes will be won instantly or through the Match 3 game.  But, even for the “instant win” prizes, you will need to either scan or enter the codes you’re given and the prizes are loaded to your card.  More on that below.

How do you play the Safeway/Albertsons Monopoly game?

Open the Safeway/Albertsons Monopoly game piece you receive at the register to discover one of the following:

  • Discount offer
  • Instant prize
  • Match 3 digital game (number to enter in app or online)

Monopoly Discounts, Offers, and Free Prizes with Pieces

You could get an immediate discount or instant win prize, as pictured above.

THERE IS A CHANGE THIS YEAR.  Even for the instant win prizes or discounts, you need to scan the code in your Shop, Play, Win app or enter it online.  The instant win pieces/coupons will not be accepted in-store and you are not collecting pieces for the game board.

Both the app and account are tied to your Just for U account.  Discounts and prizes are loaded directly to your account.  The proper amount will be deducted when you purchase the correct product and use your phone number or shopper’s card when you check out.  (Either the “coupon” discount will come off or the entire price of the product will be subtracted if you win a free item.)

Note:  The Redbox & Shutterfly pieces will have a code to enter when you’re renting or ordering online.

How do you Play the Monopoly Match 3 Game? (Enter Codes)

If your piece does not reveal an instant discount or prize, you will still scan the given code in your app or enter it online to have more chances to win.

Scanning (in app) or entering the code (online) will reveal an instant discount or prize or an opportunity to play the Match 3 game.

If you don’t win an instant prize or discount from scanning or entering the code on your game piece, you will be directed to play the Match 3 game.

Choose 3 out of the 9 options.  If they match you will that prize.

The smaller prizes are mostly loaded directly to your shopper’s card and you will not need to show the game piece, but read the winning email confirmation carefully to be sure before you throw it away.

If you win a larger prize, you will receive instructions via email.  Follow those carefully.

If you lose the Match 3 game, you’ll choose a “Chance” card to either be awarded tokens or an offer from one of their vendors.

What can you win or “buy” with Monopoly tokens?

Use the Monopoly tokens you accumulate to “buy” prizes or sweepstakes entries.  Last year, some prizes maxed out and you could no longer “buy” them, so choose what you want early.

Click on the โ€œSpend X Tokensโ€ button to use the required number of tokens to receive grocery cash, gas/grocery rewards, free products, or enter sweepstakes.

How do you find the prizes you won in Safeway/Albertsons Monpoly?

The prizes you win are loaded to your Just for U account.  If you want to view the entire list, you will need to find “My List” in your account.  In your app, look for “My List” on the bottom.  On a computer, click “Account” and scroll down to “My List.”

How do you redeem your Monopoly prizes at Safeway/Albertsons?

Most of the smaller prizes are loaded directly to your shopper’s card.  You’ll enter your phone number or give the cashier your card when you checkout and your discount will come off.  (Unless the winning email you received says you need to surrender the game piece, you won’t need that at the register.)

If you choose the item you won, it will be free.  If you have a cash-off prize, that amount will be subtracted from your total.

If you forget what you’ve won, you can look in your app (or online) at your “Code History.”  It will show you all the codes you’ve entered and each prize you’ve won.  You can also log into your Just for U account and look at “My List” to view your digital winnings.

If you win a larger prize, you may need to fill out a claim form and/or do something else.  Make sure you follow the directions carefully and that you don’t throw away the winning game piece until you’re positive you won’t need it to claim your prize.

Some smaller prizes you may win:

  • $1, $2, $5, $10, or 25 Just for U/rewards! Cash
  • FREE Products
  • 50ยข, $1.00, $2.00, $5.00 Discount Offers

If you have any questions or need clarification on anything, contact their customer service.  Go here for various ways to get in touch with them or call:  877-723-3929

When do you need to redeem your Monopoly prizes?

You will have through May 27, 2021, to redeem the prizes you won in Safeway/Albertsons Monopoly game, but you need to use all your play codes by May 18, 2021.  The last day to earn pieces is May 4, 2021.

Bonus tip:  Pick up the products you won before this date if possible.  The items you win are, likely, also the products that trigger bonus pieces.  By redeeming them before they stop giving game pieces away (May 4, 2021, or while supplies last), you’ll gain more chances to win!

Can you stack or combine multiple Monopoly coupons for extra savings?

It depends on what you mean by “stacking” or “combining.”  You can “stack” a Monopoly coupon with another paper or digital manufacturer’s coupon or even another type of store coupon for the same product.  However, you cannot use multiple Monopoly tickets on the same item.

Examples:
If you have a “Clip or Click” coupon for 57ยข Rice-A-Roni and you also have a 50ยข Monopoly coupon, you can use both and pay 7ยข.

If Ritz crackers are on sale for $1.99 (with or without a coupon, doesn’t matter) and you have a 50ยข digital or paper manufacturer’s coupon, you are still able to use a 50ยข Monopoly coupon.  Your final price would be $1.49.

If you have three 50ยข Monopoly coupons for Rockstar you can only use one per item you purchase, not three on the same can.  If you buy three cans, you are able to use all three coupons.

What if your store is out of a Monopoly prize you won?

If your Safeway/Albertsons does not have a Monopoly prize you have loaded to your account you may be out of luck, but possibly not.  First of all, you have until May 27 to redeem your prizes, so the item may be restocked by then.  Next, you could ask the cashier or a manager if you can substitute it for something similar if there is a reasonable alternative.  There are no guarantees on that, but it never hurts to ask!

85 Comments on Safeway/Albertsons Monopoly Game FAQ’s

  1. we got lots of free stuff, however, most of the items were unavailable at both safeways here in Navajo County AZ
    sux,

    we checked weekly
    just lost out

if you are going to give away free stuff ,make sure you have enough of what you give away by area.

    1. I’m also in Arizona, though I’m in Chandler. Not much luck here either. I wish they would give us credit on our card, Grocery Rewards, or something to make everyone who invested time in the game feel better. Hopefully, they learned some lessons for next year. We can hope!

  2. I won several free Shutterfly prizes. I purchased one free book. (I won four) It wouldn’t let me use another code. I won $25 off or 50% off, but it wouldn’t let me use the code. They even Emailed me to let me know the offer was in my account, but when I tried to use it, it wouldn’t let me. I have a stack of worthless “free” Shutterfly prizes. This is a total scam. I’m not sure who to blame – Albertson’s or Shutterfly.

    1. It sounds like you tried contacting Albertson’s. I’d also try Shutterfly and see if they’re willing to help. I’m not sure what else to try. Sorry for the hassle.

    2. I had the same issue until I read the monopoly piece. It was limit of one per account for each kind of item.

  3. I love playing monopoly it is so much fun look forward to it went it comes around every year. But its really disappointing that stores do not get items in at all and nothing u can do. I have won fir example nail clippers and hand soap and ibuprofen and my local 5 stores do not have them. It wuld be nice to have them in b4 u end this promotional game. Very disappointing

    1. I totally agree! It’s not like they don’t know the likelihood of us winning certain prizes. They need to stock up on them or not offer them!

There’s a small chance something will be restocked in this upcoming week, but we’re running out of time. I’m not making special trips, but when I go I always look and hope … and am disappointed. Good luck!

    2. Same for me. Iโ€™ve won 7 nail clippers as an example and they have been out of stock at 4 local stores (probably cause everyone else won them also). I have been checking weekly when I shop since the beginning and havenโ€™t yet found one nail clipper. They do not offer rain checks on the free items so what is the point of winning them.

    3. I have won 3 nail clippers, cookies, crackers, bread crumbs, etc…. Have not been available for over a month at different stores…. managers not offering alternatives. I would have been ok if not available to transfer to reward points. Oh well… I did get some things during the course of the game

  4. Hi Vicki, I feel your pain but if it makes you feel any better I DO have a computer and this year I felt the odds were worse than usual, I know the amount of work to PLAY was, entering manually or not. If I did win something, either the prizes were already taken or they wanted a LOT of tokens for products that’s worth a dollar or two or they wanted us to trade a lot of hard earned tokens to enter into a CHANCE to win something or redeem it for product in store (which is usually out of stock).
You sound pretty spry, hope you have your health and able to get your vaccine. Bless you.

  5. Thanks for your help here! Your post really helped me. I went to the store and was seriously given 2full boxes of game pieces. I believe that’s 1,000! Needless to say I have about 50 free waters, but do they even sell the 16.9 oz waters individually? Do you know if they can be used to buy a package of waters?

    1. Stores near me have not been consistently stocking them in the coolers by the register during this game, though they’re normally there. At two different stores, I’ve been able to ask a cashier or customer service and they get them for me. They have just been opening up a case of water and ringing them separately. (I’m not the first to ask because they have a case or two back there.) I’d tell them how many you’ve won (probably at customer service of if you see a manger) and ask them what they suggest. If that doesn’t work, look near the deli. At one store near me they have a shelf there and have kept it fully stocked with non-chilled single water bottles. Good luck!

    2. Yesterday I took the last case of water and pulled 21 bottles out. They ring up as .99 but then it zero’s out!!! Awesome

      1. Glad that worked for you, Kelly!

    3. I find the singles in the cold beverage section. They still have to hand enter them at checkout. If you have 50, i’d bring 2 cases of water and they can enter one as a single and enter qty of 48 will be super quick.

    4. Take one out of the fridge and when it doesn’t scan, the clerk will push it through for you. I have done this twice. I am frustrated with the OUT OF STOCK problems. I have two nail clippers won (among other stuff) and will probably never see them. I have like I have been “clipped”!!!!!!!!!

  6. My daughter and I saved all the monopoly pieces and started to scan them close to when the last day of distribution was – May 4. We had over 600 tokens and my daughter was excited to use them for the gift cards offered. When she tried to get the gift cards on May 5 (!) it wouldn’t let her They were all sold out. What a joke. Now we have all these tokens and can’t even use them. We were just saving them all up to the end and trying to get a gift card like they said we could. Had no idea that they only offered a few gift cards. Next time, we will save all the time we wasted on this game and find something fun to do!

    1. Sadly, they do have a limited number of each prize. I can see limiting specific prizes since there are distribution issues, but I’ve never understood why they have to limit a gift card. I feel like if you earned it, you should get it. But, I’m not affiliated with Safeway in any way. If you want your feedback to get to them, you’ll need to contact them directly. Sorry that you missed out!

    2. As of May 6 the coupons I had to enter for free food will enter on my app and on the Safeway app but would never translate into the discount at the register. I tried multiple times so I am unclear on how they are good through May 18

      1. I would go to customer service and have them adjust it for you. Just pull up the coupon in your app and show it to them. Every once in a while a coupon won’t come off, but it should. I’m not sure if has anything to do with the date you entered it. They just aren’t 100% accurate. My store is good about giving me my money back, though it’s a hassle. If they won’t, I’d contact their central customer service and see if they can help you. Sorry for the pain!

      2. I had this issue. I called 877-Safeway and they said my account needed to be reset. I’m hoping that works!

  7. I don’t understand why they call this monopoly it nothing like the board game, just send me the stupid coupons and save me the time

    1. I agree! This game has little connection to the board game anymore. I guess you are choosing a “Chance” card, but that’s about as close as it gets to resembling Monopoly or any of their pieces or way of playing. I enjoyed playing and getting tons of freebies this year, but it could probably use a new name!

  8. Garbage stuff. Me and my roommate spent three hours putting in roughly 250 of them (his grandma’s been collecting them, but didn’t do any). We actually won $50 cash, but while they quickly emailed the $1 we won from matching 3 properties, it’s been more than a day and we still haven’t received the email necessary to redeem the $50. Really, these cards or whatever are a test of how valuable your time is with a horribly optimized app and seemingly deceptive awards. I think the answer is is that they’re not worth your time.

In the two hours we wasted, we also won 7 free bottled waters, 2 tubs of sour cream, vinaigrette salad dressing, 100-count ibuprofen, and tampons (we’re both guys.) As they’re such niche items, all of that will probably be left unredeemed, except maybe the ibuprofen for the headache this gave us.

    1. Hopefully, your $50 is on the way. I’m not affiliated with Safeway. I would contact them directly and see if they can see if it’s being processed or what the status is. I’ve opened many more tickets than that and not won $50, so I can’t tell you how the “big prizes” work. Mine have all been smaller, though I’ve gotten SO MANY this year. To me, it’s been worth the time investment, but I realize it’s not for everyone. Hope you get your $50 soon!

  9. I have approximately 700 game cards this year – and they mean NOTHING to me. I am OLD, I guess, because I don’t know ‘digital’ talk, or ‘App’ talk, and I don’t have a cell phone. CONGRATULATIONS Safeway, for cutting out all of us OLD people who are in the same boat. In my opinion, you have discriminated against an entire generation -We who don’t have time to enter all of those numbers manually, because most of us WOULD BE DEAD by the time we did. Most of us don’t have
computers anyway, (as, if you noticed, why most seniors were not able to make
Covid vaccine appointments without one). This past year has SUCKED, and thanks
NOT for your contribution without prejudice for ALL of your customers.

    1. Sorry that the new format hasn’t worked well for you. I am not affiliated with Safeway. If you want this feedback to get to them, make sure you contact them directly.

      1. She is not speaking JUST FOR HER SELF, BUT FOR ALL OF THE PEOPLE WHO ARE OLDER and do not use technology! That is a MAJOR PORTION of our society. Discrimination is illegal. There have also been MANY COMPLAINTS on this website about this game from younger people as well. LISTEN TO THE COMPLAINTS. They are valid and in the long run, this company will lose money.

        1. I agree that it’s very hard for older people or those who don’t use or understand technology to play or even save money at most stores these days. My dad absolutely hates seeing a shelf tag that says to load a coupon to save money. He has an old flip phone and that’s just not going to happen.

This won’t help for Monopoly, but if you or anyone you know wants a discount advertised in their ad or that you seen on their shelf, go to customer service and/or tell your cashier. They are almost always willing to help, though I realize that’s a big hassle and not ideal. My Dad just won’t do it, so he goes to Walmart most of the time, where he pays the price he sees and doesn’t have to hassle with digital offers.

Personally, I love the simplicity of the technology and loading coupons (and game pieces) digitally, but I also totally understand that it doesn’t work for everyone and everyone doesn’t like it, not just older people. I wish they left some options that made it easy for everyone and preserved the “feel” of Monopoly for those who enjoyed it.

    2. Instead of complaining, you could have one of your grandchildren or children do it for you with your account. Or just give them away to someone.

      2. Good call. Make it fun with a grandchild or a local kid. Make a connection.

    3. I’m really sorry to hear that. I can tell that nowadays older people are being left out of the loop. I don’t think it’s intentional. I think they just try to make it hard for everyone to reduce the odds of anyone using the discounts.

I wish I could help. If you find that you don’t want to use them, I suggest giving them to someone else. It might make their day. Someone gave me about 150 and I’m very grateful :)

    4. You sound pretty spry, hope you have your health and able to get your vaccine. Bless you.

  10. I will forget as well so is what I’ve been doing is keeping the pieces that say free item, bring them to the store with me and get the item. That way I can see what sizes and what not. Also, if for some reason the discount doesn’t come off I can show them my game piece. I get everything that is free and what I don’t use I give to a food pantry/food bank.

    1. So.. are there any prices that are big? Million bucks, Hundred thousand? Ten k. , Vacations. I see no mention of it. You don’t even get one just for going to store. Big cheapos

      1. Yes! There are still big winners. Here’s where they show who won the bigger prizes already. Hopefully, there are some left for the rest of us! https://www.shopplaywin.com/winners

      2. Iโ€™m just wondering why if you ask a question that management have to be sarcastic! As Iโ€™m walking out I see they have doubled tickets. 4/21 -4/27. Spent $86. So receipt said 26. So I asked management. Sheโ€™s like whose cashier? I said young kid on the end. Hey Robbi. This lady said she didnโ€™t get all her tickets. No! I asked, should I of gotten Double. So loud! She comes back and says their on the receipt. Well 26 doesnโ€™t sound like itโ€™s doubled to me. But itโ€™s a scam anyways! Just to get you in to spend your money and nobody wins. Good luck to all.

        1. This feedback won’t get to Safeway, so make sure you contact them directly if you want them to know. I’m sorry that happened to you.

I will say that I’m winning a bunch this year! It’s not a million, but tons of other prizes. I just cashed in my tokens for a $25 gift card and I’ve probably gotten 30-40 freebies (12 were water, so not super exciting, I’ll admit, but like most of the others). I don’t know how I’m getting so many tickets, but I am! I don’t even usually spend $25 at one time there and mostly buy the sale items. I think most sale items give you bonus pieces, plus when you cash in prizes you are earning more bonus pieces. They’ve really been adding up for me!

Anyway, don’t give up and keep entering your codes. Hope you win some good prizes, even if it’s not the huge one.

    2. That’s a great idea! I should have been doing that from the beginning since I had to scroll through a bunch of coupons I loaded to see the free offers. I broke down and wrote them all down, but since the store I was at was out of stock (or never carried) some of the items I won, I have a scribbled list now. Next year, I’ll start off doing it right! Thanks!

  11. What happens when/if you click the check mark next to a coupon/free item you won’t from your monopoly pieces? It left the screen and went below under the heading “Checked – In Store Basket”. Will i still be able to use it at check out?

    1. I’m guessing it’s on your “list” if you look there. It doesn’t really matter. Once you’ve won and got the notification, the item is loaded to your digital account and you will get it for free or get the appropriate discount. Of course, there are always glitches, so if there’s a problem, you’ll need to show it to them. That shouldn’t happen, though!! No matter what a cashier tells you, you DO NOT have to have a coupon on your list or in any special place for it to be used. It just needs to be loaded. That goes for these and any digital coupon there. Enjoy your freebies & discounts from the game!

  12. This years game is a joke. Why even call it Monopoly. Why didnโ€™t you put a game board on the app and collect the pieces.

    1. I’m not affiliated with Safeway (or its affiliates) in any way. If you want this feedback to get to them, be sure to contact their customer service.

  13. I agree this years game is so disappointing. I actually wanted to shop more at Safeway because of the old game. The new game is frustrating and actually makes me want to shop there less just out of spite. Bring back the old game! Digital is fine. But at least let us collect the pieces.

    1. Personally, I like the new way, but I know it’s not ideal for everyone. I absolutely hated taking time to keep track of pieces, though the app has been nice the last couple years since it would do it for you. I’m not sure why they didn’t just keep that since it kind of made everyone happy since you had an option.

I also wish they would give you the option to redeem the pieces that are for free products or coupons in the store. I am more likely to remember to redeem a piece of paper/game piece I have to surrender vs going into my app and looking to see what products I’ve won. On the other hand, the coupons loaded are nice. I may “accidentally” buy something and get a discount.

If you want your feedback to get to Safeway, contact them directly since I am not affiliated with them.

      1. I will forget as well so is what I’ve been doing is keeping the pieces that say free item, bring them to the store with me and get the item. That way I can see what sizes and what not. 14. Hello,

Thank you for taking time to offer such detail on the ends, and outs of Vons Monopoly 2021. It’s greatly appreciated!

    Could you please reconfirm something?

I see I was under the wrong impression that if I purchased items off the store shelf that was labeled “bonus ticket”, I would get two tickets for each item purchase. But reading your information, I now understand that in order for me to start collecting the double bonus tickets for items, I must first have at least 10 or more of the brand sponsored items during my register check out?

Such as the some of the brand items we see advertised on the back of the game pieces.

This could now explain when I purchased 3 bonus items today but I only received three tickets instead of six :-)

    Thank you.

    1. Glad we can be helpful! Sorry if I was confusing. I was starting to doubt my “translation” of their fine print, so I just looked it up to be sure.

As I thought, you only get one for every 10 you get, not double. I just added this line to the post to make it more clear: (Example:ย  If you purchase 10 qualifying products, you’ll get 11 tickets.ย  If you purchase 20, you’ll get 12.)

Here’s their fine print on that:

Purchase of Bonus Products: You will also receive a bonus Game Ticket for each purchase of a bonus product (specific sizes and flavors will apply) (โ€œBonus Productsโ€). Purchase 10 Bonus Products in-store (and on-line from United Market Stores) in one transaction and receive one bonus Game Ticket (11 total). For clarity, โ€œbonus Game Ticketsโ€ are simply additional Game Tickets awarded through the purchase of Bonus Products.

  15. The app is not working. i just get a basic screen can no longer scan in codes, what happened to being able to go online & manually entering game codes?

    1. I am not affiliated with Safeway, so you can contact them directly for help with your app, but I’d suggest uninstalling it and reinstalling it to see if that works. Currently, my app is working correctly.

If you prefer, you can still manually enter codes online here:

      Good luck!

  16. hi there, i read about the second chance drawing, however can i affix any of my tickets to the 3×5 and send in for second chance? or only the ones i earn tokens on? thanks!

    1. Somehow, your comment slipped in here and I didn’t see it until now. You probably figured out the answer by now, but in case you didn’t … I’m not affiliated with Safeway, so I am unsure. But, from my understanding, you don’t send any game pieces in to request more and can only request two game pieces by mail with a hand-written, self-addressed stamped envelope sent to:
โ€œSHOP, PLAY, WIN! Gameโ€ Ticket Request
      Attn: Promotions Coordinator
      P.O. Box 3058
      Kennesaw, GA 30156

Hope you’ve winning some nice little prizes and the big one is still a possibility!

  17. As a loyal player of this game, I am really disapponited with the changes this year. I love the old way. I love collecting the tickets. It is more fun. That is a game. Not like this year, a lot of restrictions which restrains people from playing. I was expecting the game this year. But the only thing I found now is disappointment. In the comments, I found that Iโ€™m not the only one disappointed. In the past, as long as you make a purchase, no matter how much, no matter what products, you can get one ticket. Now you have to make a purchase for at least $25 just to get one ticket. This reduces the opportunity to get a ticket. And if the buyer is an old person or disabled person who do not know how to use a smartphone, his or her right to play this game will be deprived of by the new rules. And also for people who don’t have a smartphone or a computer, they cannot play this game. And sometimes the system doesnโ€™t work. It makes people impossible to play this game. And as what is said in the article, we used to be able to exchange the tickets we need. Now we can do nothing to help each other. I really hate the new rules this year. Bring back the old game! If the company cannot afford to play this game, donโ€™t toy with us.

    1. Since I don’t work with Safeway they will not see this. If you want your feedback to get to the people who can do something about it, make sure you contact them directly.

    2. Jewels… something is inherently wrong with forcing your customer to not only have a phone and also have internet being able to scan. This cuts out older customer and customers that are not technology savvy.
At one time the FTC said you can not run a sweepstakes and force a customer to buy anything…example McDonalds you don’t have to buy anything to get a game piece.
Jewels monopoly game is an example of crude marketing.

  18. Thanks for taking the fun out of placing the pieces on a board like TRUE Monopoly! Hate the new format and canโ€™t believe Hasbro allowed you to bastardize their game so severely. So disappointed!

    1. I’m not affiliated with Safeway in any way, so this feedback won’t make it to them. You can contact them directly if you desire.

  19. Just a note, if you get a coupon when you open your game piece (a physical coupon not from the online game , for a free product or 50 cents off a product etc), you can scan these also and it will load them to your Just For U account just like it does with the online game prizes. You donโ€™t have to keep the physical coupons.

    1. Thank you so much for taking the time to let us know! I did the post before the game began by reading all the info online and contacting their customer service department and asking questions. Somehow, I missed that! I just read the coupons and each say the paper coupons are not accepted. I am shocked! I haven’t used one yet and assumed that part was the same as last year, but that’s not what it says on each coupon or free item that I won. I will update now so people aren’t confused. Thanks so much!!

  20. I won $100. Do you know what the original digital coupon is that I need to affix on my prize form? Idk where to get that from. Thanks

    1. I am not affiliated with Safeway, and I have not won a big prize, so I don’t know the exact details for redemption. I’m guessing the are talking about the original game piece you scanned, so don’t throw it away! I’d contact their customer service through a form here: https://www.safeway.com/contact-us.html or call 877-723-3929.

      Congratulations!!

  21. Hello,

I started playing Safeway Monopoly and scanned my 3 game pieces. So far, I have won 3 rewards which have been transferred to my just 4 you account. Do I have to keep my game pieces since I already scanned them and the code numbers are on the Shop Play win app? Please let me know. Thank you, Lisa

    1. As long as you didn’t win a big prize and receive an email with different directions, you can toss them. First, check to make sure they’ve loaded to your account. (Sounds like you may have.) I can see mine when I go to “My List.” If you see it, you’re set for redemption anytime before it expires. Just grab the item and the digital discount should come off. If you have any issues, go to customer service and show them your loaded coupon. Congrats on winning something!

To clarify (probably for others reading this, not you) … if you open your physical game piece and there’s a coupon or free offer, you will need to save that. Those are not digital discounts and you’ll need the game piece to redeem those offers.

    2. No, I toss mine after scanning. Unless itโ€™s a big prize line over $500 then I would keep it just in case.

  22. I downloaded app but canโ€™t scan a ticket. What to do next?

    1. When you’re logged into your app you should see a red, rectangular shaped area to tap that says, “Scan Code.” When you choose that, your camera should kick in. Aim the boxed area at the barcode and then it will prompt you with the next steps, depending on what you get.

      1. The scan option was not appearing in the app until I closed it and opened it fresh.

        1. Thanks for taking the time to let us know. I guess opening/closing and on/off seem to fix about everything technology related. I should have known!

      2. Every code I try to scan keeps saying it’s invalid. I just opened the game piece so how is that possible? The number it gives saying it’s invalid isn’t the same code below the bar code at the bottom. I’m completely confused. It’s only accepted one of my tickets out of ten other tickets I attempted to scan. Also, do I STILL scan the instant winners?

        1. You do need to scan the instant winners. They don’t accept any paper coupons this year. The prize will be loaded to your JustforU account and the discount will come off when you purchase the correct product. If it’s for a larger prize (assuming it’s not, but …) follow any other directions they give since you may need the game piece. But, for smaller products that you win, you can toss the piece after you see it entered into your account.

I’m not sure what’s up with the app. I would say there’s a glitch of some kind happening now. You could try opening and closing the app, turning on and off your phone, or just waiting to see if it resolves itself. Beyond that, you can try contacting their customer service. I’m sorry, but I’m not affiliated with them and am not able to help with any technical issues. Good luck!

  23. I have shopped at your Albertsons and Vons stores for many years. I have also played Monopoly every year.

My cell phone is for emergencies only. I do not have the expertise to use my cell phone to play Monopoly.

My computer is used basically for email messages.

As a senior citizen, I will not being playing your Monopoly game this year and will probably be not shopping at Vons or Albertsons as frequently.

    1. I’m sorry it’s not easy for those in your situation. I’m not affiliated with Albertsons or Vons. If you want to get this message to them, you’ll need to contact them directly. Here is where you can send your message:. https://www.albertsons.com/contact-us.html

    2. Agree

  24. I am one of the very few people who do not have a smart phone. I have been using my computer to input the numbers for monopoly games for several years.

How do I handle the 2021 game if I do not have access to a smart phone???

    1. Since the game has not been released yet, I’m not 100% sure, but I’m fairly sure you will still be able to input all the numbers online. The game starts Wednesday, so we’ll know more then. I sure hope that won’t change!

On another note, I feel for you! Not only does my dad not have a smart phone, but he doesn’t have internet. He gets so frustrated when he sees digital promotions and can’t do anything about it. I load some coupons and ad deals for him, but that doesn’t help when he’s staring at shelf tag telling him he can save more when I’m not with him. I’m sure you’re in the same boat. BUT … (my dad won’t do this) … you can go to customer service and they will load or give you the deal for anything you see/want. Keep that in mind!

I’m 99% sure you can play this year. Good luck!

      1. Went to Jewel and they’re playing MONOPOLY GAME again giving out blue game pieces. I noticed on top of the Cashiers register that he had green game pieces. I asked what are those MONOPOLY GAME pieces? He said they’re ONLY for Employees??? According to the Official MONOPOLY GAME Rules Employees and Family cant get pieces or play! Very shady!

        1. I think their purpose is to not make it shady and be 100% above board. They have two totally separate games. One is for employees and the other for the general public. Employees are not allowed to win prizes in the game most of us get to play. The pieces are completely different and only good in each separate game. I think it’s a good way to generate some excitement for employees and let them win some prizes too. I’m guessing it’s where most of their employees shop, so they can be rewarded for the spending money there too.

        2. There are no shenanigans going on here. They can’t get prizes from the customer prize pool only from a separate pool designed just for them. This way they aren’t left out of the fun and are also necouraged to shop at the store they work at.

          1. I agree with you. I like that employees who invest a lot of time at Safeway can join in the fun and also have the potential to save. I’m glad the company chooses to let them participate!

        3. They have the blue cards for the employees as a way for them to play too.
Its meant to make the green card game for the shoppers NOT shady.

    2. I checked and you can enter codes online, so you’re set to keep playing Monopoly this year!

  25. If you search “shop play win” in your app store, it should come up. If that doesn’t work, Google the same phrase and it looks like the top two results will either take you to the App Store (for Apple) or Google Play (for Android). Or, I THINK these links will work . . .
    Apple: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/shop-play-win-monopoly/id1333309930

    Android:https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.digitalattic.cpsalbertsons2018&hl=en_US&gl=US

  26. Hello. Do you have a link to the app? I tried searching it but didnโ€™t find it. Thanks
